What is success????

How do we measure success?

Can a person have too much success?

The businessman was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The businessman complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied only a little while.

The businessman then asked why he didn't stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family's immediate needs. The businessman then asked, but what do you do with the rest of your time? The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos; I have a full and busy life, señor."

The businessman scoffed, "I am a Harvard MBA and I could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats; eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman, you would sell directly to the processor and eventually open your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City where you would run your expanding enterprise."

The Mexican fisherman asked, "But señor, how long will this all take?" To which the businessman replied, "15-20 years." "But what then, señor?" The businessman laughed and said, "That's the best part! When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich. You would make millions." "Millions, señor? Then what?" The businessman said, "Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos."

The fisherman, still smiling, looked up and said, "Isn't that what I'm doing right now?"

Like a song, our voices will sing in harmony :-)

Today, as i was standing in front of the stage watching the teams playing their songs for the Gamelan and Caklempong competitions, i saw how unity is very important in playing the songs and in life.

For example, the team from my school, on normal days, there will be arguments over differences but today when i saw them play, the music was harmonious and so melodious and if you were told that they always flights over petty matters, i am sure you will laugh it off.

From them, i saw how unity is very important and its not because of who we are and what we can do alone but its what can happened when we do it together as a team that matters.

Enjoy their performance and be inspired by the unity shown and have a pleasant day :-)

Seeker of the light of Truth!

We've been trying to start a study circle with a few mothers in our targeted receptive population for a few weeks, and it was postponed again and again.  :(

One fine week, we said, 'let's just start next week, even if only one person can make it!'

so, we FINALLY started the group..
But only Mary(one of the very receptive mothers) came for it... as expected I guess..
So, anyways, we decided to just start it off... Halfway through the session, one of the mother of the children class came down to pass the monthly Children Class fees to the Children Class teacher.

Mary says: ' hey, come lah join us to learn, something new. As long as it is good thing, we should learn.'
So, the mother sat down and joined us..
And this mother came for the second session the next day too.. :)

Then the next day we had our second session of study circles. Another two joined in for awhile because of Mary as well....
I guess that's the benefit of having a study circle in such a open space. :)

During the session, we were studying the part 'O People of Baha'
Then one of the participants asked ' What is Baha?'
Mary says: 'Baha means they are Baha'is. It's a religion, but no need to worry about that, I think the most important thing is we come to learn, if it is good thing, we learn. Don't worry, they won't try to convert you. I am here to protect you.' :)

Then Mary shared that after her first session, she brought her book back to show her husband, they had another session of Ruhi at home.. The husband also asked about Baha'is apparently. And I think Mary successfully convinced him that we are sincere. Because she says 'My husband say, we know that you are sincere, but most of the neighbours here are not aware of it, you should find time to visit them and explain to them.'

And she added 'If not, by the end of the day, the only people you see coming would be me, my son and my daughter.'

Such an interesting character! A true seeker after truth!

"Sometimes the sun rises from the centre of the horizon, then in summer it rises farther north, in winter farther south-but it is always the self-same sun, however different are the points of its rising.
In like manner truth is one, although its manifestations may be very different. Some men have eyes and see. These worship the sun, no matter from which point on the horizon it may dawn; and when the sun has left the winter sky to appear in the summer one, they know how to find it again. Others there are who worship only the spot from which the sun arose, and when it arises in its glory from another place they remain in contemplation before the spot of its former rising. Alas! these men are deprived of the blessings of the sun. Those who in truth adore the sun itself will recognize it from whatsoever dawning-place it may appear, and will straightway turn their faces towards its radiance.' - Abdu'l-Baha
